Shannon Garrett Joins Huskies Coaching Staff

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 16, 2011

EDMONTON – After a couple of seasons away from football, Shannon Garrett will once again find himself on the sidelines as he begins his career as a football coach.

The Edmonton Huskies are proud to welcome Canadian Football League alumnus Shannon Garrett to their defensive coaching staff. Garrett played defensive back and linebacker for 15 seasons in the CFL, suiting up for the Edmonton Eskimos, Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also had a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.

“Shannon has done a lot of work at youth football camps in the Edmonton area for the past three years and has developed good relationships throughout our community,” said Huskies General Manager Bob Bula.

“We are bringing in a person who knows football and is a great teacher. He’s really excited about joining our football club and we are really excited to welcome him.”

Garrett joins former Edmonton Eskimo teammate and current Huskies Head Coach Rick Walters on a coaching staff that includes former Huskies players who earned Canadian Junior Football Championships in 2004 and 2005.

Garrett called it a playing career after the 2009 CFL season. He was honoured as a CFL West All-star in 2001 and 2003, and earned Grey Cup championships in 2003 and 2005 as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos.
